Enlightenment is a collaborative project by Betty Quinn and Birce Ozkan.
Enlightenment is an interactive skirt that physically visualizes the meditative state of the wearer. Aesthetically, the design of the skirt was inspired by foliage and butterflies. In merging fashion with technology, we aimed to experiment with the garment as a kinetic interface to express the condition of the human body - emotionally and physiologically - in an alternative way.
The handmade skirt is constructed from two hidden servo motors powered by an arduino micro, which are attached to butterfly wings that receive data from the EEG Neurosky headset. The EEG sensor measures the levels of meditation, which activate the servo motors; the higher the meditative state of the wearer, the faster the butterfly wings flap. Enlightenment's responsiveness transforms the invisible state of calmness and peace into the rhythmic motion of butterflies.
